What is Iolite?

Iolite is a striking gemstone, known for its vibrant blue to violet hues, which can range from pale lavender to deep indigo. Iolite forms in metamorphic rocks and can also be found in granitic pegmatites. It is typically found in regions with volcanic activity and is often associated with sapphires and other gemstones.  Iolite ranks 7-7.5 on the Mohs scale of hardness, making it fairly durable for use in jewellery.
